Among a healthy slew of competitors – this year Grinding Gear Games’ Path of Exile was nominated (and ultimately won) a BAFTA award as the Best Evolving Game.
Other nominees in the “Evolving Game” category included some very well-known and beloved titles such as Bungie’s Destiny 2, Respawn Entertainment’s Apex Legends, and Fortnite by Epic Games.
Chris Wilson, the co-founder of Grinding Gear Games commented on the award shortly after their winning was announced.
It’s such an honour to win this prestigious award. Jonathan, Erik and I are so proud of Path of Exile’s entire development team and what we have achieved together. We’d like to especially thank our entire community for their support. The Evolution in Evolving Game comes from your feedback and encouragement over the years. The pinnacle of our game’s evolution is our vision for Path of Exile 2, and we can’t wait until the next time we reveal more of what we have planned.

Since the early 2000’s the BAFTA (British Academy of Film and Television Arts) have been actively including games among more traditional media as a category for their prestigious awards.
In his official statement, GGG’s Chris Wilson also mentioned the fabled Path of Exile 2, which is set to uproot the game as we know it and “really take it to the next level.” With a beta release date penned out for the tail-end of 2020, the community is very excited for what the future holds including new playable character classses, a wholly new skill system and a wealth of never-seen-before content.
And while we don’t know what the future holds for Path of Exile, it’s evident that GGG is still making waves in the Action RPG community after almost 20 years!
