Why Do You Need To Farm In Frostborn?
As part of any sensible guide on how to farm in Frostborn, we’ve first got to touch on why farming should even be on your priority list in the first place.
In Frostborn, farming allows you to do two very important things:
- Level up your character.
- Gather resources to level up your district, build your camp, and craft better items.
And as you may already have figured out, these two things are the whole point of the game. As such, it’s obvious that farming is extremely important. And being able to farm well is going to prove to be an amazing advantage.
So, having now gotten a feel for why farming is important in the game – let’s talk about how to farm in Frostborn like a pro, and the best farming strategy to get lots of resources and advance through the game quickly and efficiently.
How To Farm In Frostborn Action RPG – The Best Strategy
Farming well in Frostborn isn’t just about gathering the maximum amount of resources per allotment of time (that’s where tournaments come into play). But rather, it’s about being very strategic and efficient in how you gather resources, and gain experience to level up your character in the most optimal way.
For example, if you wanted to farm lots of maple and only maple – you could put a single maple log in your inventory along with a hatchet and fill the rest of the slots with rope (which is not something you can gather except off of dead enemies). You would then press auto and the game would guide you to the nearest maple tree, as that’s the only resource you’d be able to put in your backpack.
Now, what about a more general approach on how to farm in Frostborn? Don’t worry – we’ve got you covered!
Starting Out: Farm Green Zones
The first few resources you’ll encounter in Frostborn will be: Pine Logs, Limestone, Iron, Plant Fiber, Rawhide, Rope, and Fabric.
These resources will take you well into the Mid Game, and your first objective will be to just stockpile as many as you can. This will coincide with leveling up and you can check out our strategies on how to level up fast in Frostborn Action RPG below. So, when the question of how to farm in Frostborn comes up – green zones should always be the first thing on your mind as a newer player.
But what if you’ve been at it for a while already?
Mid Game: District Level 40 & Workbench
The turning point from noob to seasoned player will be crafting your own Workbench. Among other things, it will allow you to make your own Nails, Leather Strips, Pliers, Iron Plates, Dragon Scales, Resin, Chains, and Forged Fasteners.
These resources, in turn, will help you get much better gear, and stock up on supplies to start running the Sanctum of Odin efficiently, which will propel you right into the late game gear and resource wise.
Late Game: Trade For Resources
Once you’ve hit the end-game, you’re going to be looking for very niche and specific things. Advancing the level of your choice of class and stocking up on spare gear will be the main objectives when it comes to how to farm in Frostborn at the high levels.
And while you can definitely take the time to farm up resources like Maple, Copper, Stone Blocks, Steel, and Oak – you’d be much better served by just trading other valuable items for them.
Why is this the case? Well, just think of it this way – there are many other players who have lots of those resources, but don’t want to spend their time on crafting healing salves, speed potions, bandages, fasteners, nails, and other goods. Or you could even trade the gear you loot from tombs and sanctums for these materials.
Now that we’ve covered all there is to know about how to farm in Frostborn, let’s talk about how you can level up quickly and efficiently. After all farming and levelling up your character go hand in hand in this game.
How To Level Up Fast In Frostborn
If you’ve played any amount of Frostborn, you’d have noticed by now that you can get experience and levels in one of a few different ways:
- Gathering resources (including shrubs, branches, and stones on the ground).
- Killing enemies.
- Completing tasks and act quests.
So, as you can see, there’s a myriad of ways to gain experience, and virtually anything you’ll be doing is a viable way to progress in the game. However, not all of these approaches are equally matched. And that’s why a lot of players find themselves stuck and asking how to level up in Frostborn.
Let’s dive in – below, we’ll cover the best route to take when getting started in the game, and give you some tips and tricks on advancing through the levels.
Levels 1 – 10: Solo Farm Green Zones With A Spear
The starting levels don’t really differ for anyone. Whether you’re a seasoned pro or a total newcomer to Forstborn, you’ll be following the few starting tasks and diving into a green zone.
Your main objective here is to do the following:
- Craft yourself a spear.
- Craft a set of basic armor.
- Get enough resources to sustain weapons, armor, and food while leveling.
- Obtain resources and level district to unlock staff of support.
So, why do we need a spear and basic armor? Well first off – they’re the absolute cheapest viable armor and weapon that we can use to level, and they’ll last us well into the later levels of the game. The spear helps us kill enemies effectively by back-shotting them out of stealth. And the armor will reduce all incoming damage by around 30%, which is a huge help.
The way to farm here is to load into a green zone, and go around back-shotting enemies until the section of the map you’re in is relatively clear. Then it’s time to go and farm all the resources we can. And once the map is fully clear, we will rinse and repeat.
In most cases, just following the starting tasks and act quests will get you to level 10 quickly.
And once you’ve reached the milestone, it’s time to decide whether you want to level in a family (with friends) or solo, which is why we’ve split up the next few sections accordingly.
(GROUP) Levels 10 – 30: Group Farm Tombs With Friends
While gathering resources will always be a stable and reliable way to get exp and level up quite quickly – killing enemies is actually a great alternative, especially when you can clear tombs quickly.
If you’re in a family and are rocking some decent gear, you can actually chain-run tombs for very fast levels and a hefty amount of influence points too.
In particular, Garm’s Fangs, Giants’ Forest, the Forest Of Shadows, and the Desperate Foothills are the places you’ll initially have access to.
However, as good of a leveling method in Frostborn as this is – there are some things to keep in mind:
- You will need pretty good gear (green or blue weapons at minimum and at least basic armor).
- You will need lots of bandages and at least one healer on your team to make the runs efficient and quick enough to yield good experience rates.
- All of the tombs are in PvP zones, you may have to fight other players, and could lose your items.
But if you’ve got everything set up well, and don’t mind a little risk – you can level up very quickly by running tombs with your family in Frostborn.
(SOLO) Levels 10 – 30: Solo Farm Green Zones With Firebombs
But what about those of us that don’t have any friends to play the game with? No worries! If you’re not keen on playing together with people, or simply don’t know anyone in game yet – you can always farm solo and level up very quickly while you’re at it.
The easiest and quickest way to level up solo in Frostborn Action RPG is to clear green zones with firebombs and then auto-farm them.
You will need the following:
- Lots of fire bombs.
- A set of basic armor to reduce damage while pulling enemies together.
- Lots of bandages.
- A staff of support and the healer class unlocked.
The short and sweet of it is that you will load into a green zone, run around the map and pull as many enemies as you can together, and once you’ve got enough – throw a fire bomb at them and kill them all in just a few seconds. And if you take some damage, you’ve got bandages, and two healing spells to keep you alive.
And keep in mind – with a little practice, it’s possible to clear the entire map with one single fire bomb.
Now, what about after you’ve killed all the enemies? Well, dear reader, now it’s time to farm!
Hit the auto button, and kick back as your character farms the entire green zone, without any pesky draugrs or wolves attacking him. It’s very quick experience and you can probably reach level 30 in under an hour with this method starting at level 10.
But, as you may have already figured out – it’s not cheap as some of these materials and gear can be hard to find for a solo player that’s just starting out for the first time.
Levels 30+: Rinse And Repeat
Once you reach level 30, whether you went the team or solo route, you should have ample resources and a good handle on how to level up fast in Frostborn.
The fastest way to level in Frostborn going forward will be to just stick to your guns!
Obviously, you will want to incorporate more challenging content if you’re playing in a group – so maybe giving Sanctums a shot would be worthwhile once you’ve farmed up some stronger gear. And if you’re a solo player, our best advice is to stock up on fire bombs and enjoy the grind to level 99.
